The requirement for asset management companies to join an industry association
The Monetary and Financial Code (article L 531-8) stipulates that each investment firm, including asset management companies, must join an industry association of its choice, responsible for collectively representating and defending the rights and interests of its members. This association must be a member of the AFECEI – Association Française des Etablissements de Crédit et des Entreprises d’Investissement.
AFG has been a member of the AFECEI since September 5, 1996.
Becoming a member of the AFG enables compliance with the requirements of the French Monetary and Financial Code.
Who joins the AFG?
French companies authorized to carry out asset management on behalf of third parties and investment companies (in particular asset management companies and SICAVs).

Corresponding members
- In 2009, AFG decided to welcome “corresponding members”, in order to broaden its capacity for reflection and proposal, by benefiting from the expertise of these service providers, representative of its ecosystem. Corresponding members are involved in AFG’s activities through their participation in ad hoc working groups set up to deal with a given topic involving the French third-party asset management industry.
- AFG’s Board of Directors has decided that the status of corresponding member should be reserved for the following service providers :
- lawyers, legal and/or tax consultancy firms ;
- consulting firms ;
- audit firms, chartered accountants, statutory auditors ;
- IT services companies and software publishers specializing in financial management ;
- providers of financial information and analysis ;
- French branches of foreign management companies.
For all information concerning this “corresponding member” status, please contact Grégory Lasne, Director of Member Services (01 44 94 94 15)
